Meat Shackles?

April 28, 2010

I love the attention that I’ve been receiving concerning my diet.  Not because I like attention (though attention’s nice) but because it means that I’m not just talking into the great void that is the blogosphere.  One of the biggest questions that I get, next to “How do I do it?”, is “Don’t you feel limited by your diet?”.

I think not.

Sure I miss pasta, cake, the occasional sandwich (like grilled cheese), and the flour needed to make a good rue.  But it’s bad for you.  Saying “I don’t think I could live without a good slice of bread in the morning, it just tastes too good” is just like a drug addict saying “I don’t think I could live without an armful of dope in the morning, it just tastes too good”.  Now, I do feel limited by the junk that I can buy in Norway on a student’s budget.  But meat doesn’t bore me.  As a self-professed carnivore – have been since as long as I liked food – to be asked whether a meat-oriented diet is boring is just ridiculous. … Owww

April 27, 2010

I’ve been on hiatus.  You combine important school projects with a wonderful trip to Krakow (yes, I will post about that, as well as catch you all up on what I did for Easter) and you get a blessedly hectic life where all you want to do is live in the moment.  Now I’ll be nice and share that life – it’s the whole purpose of a blog, after all.  But first: fitness.

  • Deadlift 5RM – 125kg (new personal record!)
  • Towel Pullups – 3 x max: 6/5/4
  • 20 mins of:
    • 1 min on, 1 min off rowing.  Goal: 3000m, 1 pushup penalty each 5m not reached

Masochist is My Middle Name

April 13, 2010

Another CFFB workout today.  This time it left me soul-wrenchingly achey by the end.  Here it is:

  • Deadlift to 5RM – 125kg (new personal record!)
  • Max rounds in 15 minutes of: (completed 10)
    • 10 supine ring pullups
    • 10 pushups
    • 10 15kg plate slams

Coming off of 2 beer and pastry soaked weeks in Europe and lifting a personal record 5RM deadlift is a little astounding (last record was 117.5kg).  Man, plate slams ripped up the slightly softening calluses on my hands – time to build new ones (but it’s a good thing tomorrow is a rest day). Welcome Back, Now Hit the Gym

April 12, 2010

The weekend to recuperate, then right back into the gym.  Owing to my still busted Achilles Tendon, I eased back into Crossfit.  Though I feel like a little bit of a wuss (and Crossfit seems to have been designed to be approached balls-to-the-wall), the dull throb in near my heel tells me wuss now, so I can at least walk to the gym tomorrow.

  • Squat 3×5: 70/80/80kg
  • Bench 3×5: 55/60/65kg
  • 10 rounds on each arm: 12kg
    • DB clean
    • DB squat
    • DB press
    • DB squat
    • DB press

Well, realized that it should have been a press I did instead of bench, but not a huge deal.  As for the 10 rounds – definitely could have handled something closer to 18kg or so.  Looking forward to tomorrow.

The sun’s beautiful here today.

Vi sees i morgen.

Back a Changed Man

April 10, 2010

The Prodigal Son returns. A stint of church-seeing just made me think of this.

Hello everyone, I’m back from my Euro-trip to Berlin, Amsterdam, Brugges, and Brussels!  Yes, it was awesome.  More than awesome, in fact.  This trip was a much needed repose from the tedium of school, the unending struggle of job hunting, and a longing for old friends.  Thinking alone, I have a new perspective on what I want to do with business, school, and just life in general.  2-ish weeks of beer, illicit food, culture and nightlife does a soul good, apparently. Nick in Berlin

March 31, 2010

I have developed an uncanny ability to sleep pretty much anywhere.  More on that later.

My little adventure started at 6 or so in the morning of the 27th.  I took a bus down to the city centre to catch the train from Bergen to Oslo.  Though expensive, the day train offered some great views of the Norwegian landscape.  A quick layover in Oslo (the city is really quite disappointing), and a bus from Oslo to Rygge, and I was on a plane to Stockholm Skavsta airport.  This was all in one day. Where is Nick Going?

March 26, 2010

I’ve been missing these past few days from the blogosphere, and for good reason.  As I mentioned before, I was writing an essay, then relaxing from writing that essay.  Then I was planning my flashpacking trip through Europe.  Yes, I’m leaving this town, that so often has felt like a cage, albeit a very gilded one.
