What’s On My Plate: Carnivore Porn

February 28, 2010

I took a shopping adventure down in the city centre, and did it pay off!  One of the markets had slabs of pork on sale for 10krn/kg.  That’s less than $1/lbs.  Needless to say, I grabbed the largest slab I could find (3.5kg) and went home.  After thawing and breaking down the slab for easier freezing this is what a piece looked like:

It’s called ribbe, and turns out this is a traditional Norwegian Christmas dish.  Why on earth do we eat turkey on thanksgiving when we can have something that cooks in about 2 hrs and becomes this:

Yes, that’s crispy, succulent, fatty skin (notice the little cubes I couldn’t resist before taking the shot).  Layers upon layers of healthy animal fat keep the meet succulent during its pan-steamed then broiled adventure in my oven.  My spice recipe is definitely not Norwegian, consisting of garlic powder, cumin, paprika, salt and pepper, but that’s just fine with me.  Delicious.  Reminds me of suckling pork … for Christmas.  I’m starting a new Christmas tradition when I get home, thank you.

And I have half a mind to go downtown again (this time by 40min walk, busses are way too expensive here) and get some more before it runs out.  Alas, my freezer is full to the point of bursting with meat.  I love meat.

Yes, I haven’t posted in a while.  I’ve got tons of ideas, but I’ve also put off work for the past, oh, two weeks.  I’m also trying my hardest to eradicate a very pesky cold.  Green tea, overdosing on vitamin C, and plenty of sitting around doing nothing but reading and movies sounds good.  And the olympics.  Go Canada!

Vi sees.
